While watching a documentary on the German composer Hans Werner Henze, directed by Michael Blackwood, our publisher, Barbara Epler, spotted a familiar face: none other than Muriel Spark, sitting among Alberto Moravio and Ingeborg Bachmann at a dinner party, telling a funny story. It is nothing short of a great victory to see Spark here as she was: sharp, witty, mischievous, wicked—gleefully holding court amongst fellow writers and artists.
